This post is basically to introduce those attraction places in Sandakan.I am very proud to be the people of Sandakan.Although this Sandakan is not as much pretty, modern or advanced as per City in other cities in Malaysia.I was born,raised,have worked and were married here.I was reluctant to leave this place and migrate to other places except for holiday..lain ceritalah..hehehe!!!..

Although only a small town, but there are areas that’s attracted for tourists from foreign and domestic..Let’s find out..Before we proceed to the main topic.let us know a bit info about Sandakan.

According to Wikipedia, The historical City of Sandakan is the second-largest city in Sabah, East Malaysia, on the north-eastern coast of Borneo. It is located on the east coast of the island and it is the administrative centre of Sandakan Division and was the former capital of British North Borneo. Sandakan is known as the gateway for ecotourism destinations in Sabah.

The area is also infamous as the site of a World War II Japanese airfield, now known as Sandakan Airport, which was built by the forced labour of 6,000 Javanese civilians and Allied prisoners of war. In 1945, the surviving Australian prisoners were sent on the Sandakan Death Marches; only 6 of them survived the war.

Jamek Mosque

Sim-Sim Mosque

Masjid Jamek Sandakan is a mosque in the town of Sandakan, Sabah. It was originally built in the 1890′s and now was 120 years old as a place of worship for the Muslims in Sandakan. Muslims sought refuge here during the Second World War, and it even acted as a hiding place for a few Europeans.And the next image is Mosque Sim-Sim people called here( Forget already the named)..So far this mosque was the big one mosque here around Sandakan.On the day  of Syawal, all Muslims will go to pray here .So do come early  to take place ok..

St Michael’s Church

  St Michael’s and All Angels Church was the first building in Sabah to be built of stone. Work began in 1893, but it was only completed thirty years later. The building was designed by a New Zealander, B.W. Mountfort. Conscripted prisoners were used to build the church. The structure was built with a belian timberframe, followed by bricks and then stones. The stones came from nearby Kampung Buli Sim Sim. In addition, white stones were also imported from Hong Kong.

Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple

Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple is a Buddhist temple in Sandakan, Sabah. It is located on a hill about 4 km to the west of Sandakan town centre. From here, there's a panoramic vista of Sandakan Bay below. compared with the other Chinese and Buddhist temples in Sandakan, Puu Jih Shih is pretty new, having come into the picture only in 1987 at a cost of RM5 million.

Crocodile Farm

The Sandakan Crocodile Farm is Malaysia's largest with over 3000 of the reptiles. The original stock came from wild crocodiles found along the Kinabatangan River. The animals are farmed for their skins to be turned into shoes and bags. Besides offering visitors an up-close look at Sabah's biggest reptiles, the farm hosts several other attractions as well, including crocodile and snake shows. It also features a mini zoo with a 100kg Amazonian fish, and a children's park.

Sandakan Memorial Park

The Memorial Park witnessed the death of approximately 2400 Australian and British prisoners of war held by the Japanese in the Sandakan POW camp, within the sight of Allied victory in the Pacific war. Situated about 11 km outside of Sandakan, the former site of the notorious WWII prisoner of war camp now locates the suburb of Taman Rimba. The clearly sign-posted Sandakan Memorial Park is well maintained and beautifully landscaped, which makes it ideal for solitary soul-searching strolls.
The park also includes a small museum that serves as a memorial to the thousands of Australian and British who lost their lives in the hands of the Japanese during WWII. The memory of WWII is emphasized by the rusting remains of an excavator and a generator and a boiler which still lie in their original positions near the steps leading up to a small Commemorative Pavilion.
A must-see for history enthusiasts.

Taman Tun Abdul Razak

The park is located in Sandakan Town next to the Community Hall.I remember during my childhood, In the evening my parents always took me and my brother then to the park to play.This park is suitable to serve as a location for the picture taking as green natural beauty background  and wonderful sea views.

Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary

In the centre of the mangrove forests of Semawang is the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, where you can see Borneo’s indigenous proboscis monkeys. This privately-owned sanctuary located within an oil palm estate gives you the chance to observe these animals up close and personal.Take a night tour for a chance to see wild boars, flying squirrels, fireflies and crocodiles. The sanctuary also has a lodge with aircondtioned twin or double rooms, family chalet and dormitaries for those who wish to stay overnight.

Sandakan Heritage Trail

You can now enjoy Sandakan at your own pace. The Sandakan Heritage Trail is a comprehensive walk that covers the town's important and interesting sites which have contributed to her rich historical past. A leaflet will map out the entire trail for you and it covers about fifteen spots.Getting There - Begin at the Masjid Jamek at Lebuh Empat (Fourth Avenue), near Wisma Sandakan.

Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

  The Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre was set up in 1964 to rehabilitate orphaned baby orang utan. Set in the lush 4,300-hectare Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve, the Centre under the administration of the Wildlife Department of Sabah attracts tourists and researchers alike, giving them the opportunity to watch the orang utan up close in their natural habitat. A boardwalk leads you to a viewing gallery and feeding platform where the apes are fed milk and bananas twice a day at 10.00am and 3.00pm by rangers. Feeding time also attracts long-tailed macaques to the area.

Sandakan Heritage Museum

Sandakan Heritage Museum is one of the museums in Sandakan, Sabah. It was opened on 5 December 2003 to document the history of Sandakan.Sandakan Heritage Museum is housed inside Wisma Warisan, which was a British government building during colonial times. The office of the British Resident was located on the first floor of the building, while on the ground floor, there was a post office where the Tourist Information Centre is located today.

Actually, there are many other interesting places to visit in Sandakan, But I tired to type if I write all .. hehehe .. Among the attractions in Sandakan is the Water Village, Batu Sapi, renowned for its seafood dishes and many Sandakan Rainforest Park which is many lowland species of flora and fauna of Borneo are found in this forest .. In addition, Batu Tuluq, Lankayan Island, Turtle Island Park, Gomantong Cave ,Libaran Island and River Kinabatangan.Also Agnes Keith House,Tea House,Trig-Hill,and Thousand stairs.
